Phuket or Khao Lak – Ban Talay Nok - Khao Lak or Phuket |
Enjoy an intense but rewarding day in a breathtaking coastal fishing village overlooking the Andaman Sea. Ban Talae Nok is a delightful village with a way of life unchanged until electricity came to the village in 1990. Eventually they saw the first Westerner too. After the tsunami, the village embraced sustainable tourism and handicraft production as forms of alterative income, and has come to value the importance of preserving their natural environment through waste management and mangrove reforestation projects. Everyone has something to offer and no specific skill set is required. Activities include teaching English; helping out at the school; mangrove reforestation; sharing your skills or hobby with villager; habitat rehabilitation; beach clearance and waste management, teaching community aerobics, yoga, or your hobby.

| Day 1: Phuket or Khao Lak – Ban Talae Nok – English Teaching in Rural Coastal Fishing Village – Overnight Local Village |
|
Transfer from Phuket (3.5 hours) or Khao Lak (2.0 hours) to the village. You will meet your host family at whose house you will stay the evening, then visit the pre-Tsunami site of the village and learn the story from your guide. You’ll feast on a traditional lunch with your host family that could include yellow curry with fish, vegetable soup, chicken curry with coconut milk, sticky rice with coconut milk, and Thai custard. After a brief introduction, your guide – along with local villagers – will introduce you to the school or community centre where you will prepare English learning activities. You will spend the next two hours teaching English through fun and games with the children. Not only will you be able to help village kids at school learning conversational English, but also your host family and members of the village handicraft cooperative. The ability to communicate in English is a vital skill for Thais, especially those wanting to engage in successful tourism, guiding, or running a general business. After dinner, you can practice English (or Thai!) with your host family.
Dinner with your host family, and overnight in their house.
