| Day 1:
Arrive
Nakorn Phanom – Ban Nong Hoi Yai & the REAL Thailand – Ho Chi Mihn’s House
– Boat ride on Mekong River – Nakorn Phanom |
Fly to Nakorn Phanom a quaint & lovely town stretches
several kilometers along the river. Drive to Ban Nong Hoi Yai, where customs
and crafts of old are still very much a part of everyday life. See the process
of creating beautiful cotton cloth; watch as village elders play traditional
songs on homemade instruments; perform an Isan & Lao Bai Sii Ceremony that
predates Buddhism.
Return to visit Ho Chi Minh’s old house and take a town tour
of Nakorn Phanom with your guide by van, bicycle, or local “Skylab” (local
slang for a motor tri-shaw!) Visit Wat Pra Yai before taking a boat ride on
the Mekong River to see beautiful scenery of Laos and Thailand. Return to the hotel to have dinner and relax. Spend the evening strolling
around town and along the promenade or sample the nightlife.

Day 2: Nakorn Phanom – Thad Phanom – Mukdaharn – Ban Panna – Forest Monkey Temple
–Khong Jiam & the 2 Colour River |
After a breakfast, drive to Thad Phanom Temple, built 1500 years ago or more! Have your fortune told in the Chinese “Siem Sii” tradition
or take a quick look at the museum. Continue to Mukdahan for a walk through the
Indochine Market and enjoy lunch in a shady “sala” with a view of Laos! On the way to Khong Jiam stop in Ban Panna, a typical country Isan town, and shrine
to a holy hermit, popular with monkeys. Upon arrival at the Tohsaeng Khong Jiam
Resort, check in, and then spend the rest of the day at leisure to enjoy the
resort’s facilities. Optional boat rides available.

| Day 3: Around
Khong Jiam – Pha Taem National Pre Historical Park – Chong Mek Border Market
Laos – Khong Jiam |
Drive to Pha Taem National Park to view the pre-historic
paintings. Enjoy lovely views of the Mekong and Laos. Walk the length of the
trail around the cliff if you like (about 2km +). At Khong Jiam, take a
walk around this quaint little town. Then lunch at a floating “raft
restaurant” on the Mekong River. Visit the nearby Chong Mek border point
with Laos. Shop the market on both sides of the border before returning to
enjoy the resort’s comfortable facilities.

| Day 4: Ubon – Khong Jiam, Ubon Ratchathani
– Khao Phra Viharn (Prae Vihear) Khmer Temple Complex on the Cambodian Border –

Drive to Khao Phra Viharn Khmer temple complex even before
Angkor Wat. Walk up steps to graded causeways and arrive at the extensive but
dilapidated center, which is on a cliff-top overlooking the virgin Cambodian
countryside. Time permitting, on the way back to the vehicle stop at near-by Maw-I-Daeng
cliff carvings. Drive back to Ubon Ratchathani. Visit
a number of city sites before driving to before flight to Bangkok.
