GETTING THERE: Guided service begins at Nakorn Phanom, best accessed from Bangkok with daily direct flights.   Although primarily an Isan Experience, this excursion includes a day trip across the Mekong into Laos.  Our guide and driver will meet you at the Nakorn Phanom Thailand airport unless otherwise instructed.   

   

Day 1:  Nakorn Phanom – City highlights – Si Songkram River Boat Ride and Village Visit – Chaiburi – Nakorn Phanom
Lao Bai Sii Ceremony
Arrival at Nakorn Phanom airport, then visit Ho Chi Minh’s House and sites around Nakorn Phanom town en route to check in at the hotel. In the afternoon visit local village and Si Songkram River for a boat ride. In the late afternoon return to Nakorn Phanom for overnight and dinner.

Day 2: Nakorn Phanom – Thad Phanom’s Temple  – “Real Thailand” Experience  at Ban Nong Hoi Yai – Nakorn Phanom
Making music at Ban Nong Hoi Yai Village
After a breakfast, drive to Thad Phanom Temple, built 1500 years ago or more!  Have your fortune told in the Chinese “Siem Sii” tradition or take a quick look at the museum. Drive to Ban Nong Hoi Yai, where customs and crafts of old are still very much a part of everyday life. See the process of creating beautiful cotton cloth; watch as village elders play traditional songs on homemade instruments; perform an Isan &  Lao Bai Sii Ceremony that predates Buddhism. Return to Nakorn Phanom for dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 3: Nakorn Phanom (Thailand) – Tha Kaek (Laos) – Morning Market – Tham Phachan Cave – Tha Falang  – “Buddha Cave” –  Muang Pone Stupa – Tha Kaek (Laos) – Nakorn Phanom (Thailand)
Tam Pa Chan Cave
Today we cross the Mekong River to Tha Kaek, Laos. Visit the bustling morning market and a huge limestone cave.  Visit a recently-discovered “Buddha Cave” that has become an important local holy shrine, and meet the man who discovered it looking for bird eggs. Then enjoy a Lao-style picnic lunch. In the afternoon enjoy Tha Farang, or “Frenchman’s Landing” – once a favorite picnic spot for French colonials. Return to Tha Kaek in time to return to Nakorn Phanom for overnight and dinner.

Free until transfer to the airport for your flight to your next destination or return to Bangkok.
