GETTING THERE: Guided service begins at Vientiane airport (or Friendship bridge on request) and ends at the Luang Prabang airport, where daily flights serve domestic destinations other regional capitals.  Ask our destination specialists for suggestions on how best to integrate this tour into your overall itinerary.

   

Day 1:  Arrive in Vientiane – Visit Local Highlights – Vientiane
Vientiane - The world's smallest capital city?
Arrive at Vientiane and meet your guide to transfer to your hotel for check in and Lunch. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a city tour to Wat Sisaket with its thousands of miniature Buddha statues. Other sites you will see include the huge golden That Luang monument, and next door, Vientiane's own Victory Monument, which looks like the Arc de Triomphe. Also visit Wat Simuang and Wat Prakeo, which was the original home of the famous Emerald Buddha, which today lives in Bangkok. Return to your hotel for dinner on your own at one of the city’s many excellent restaurants.

Day 2:  Vientiane – Luang Prabang – Around World Heritage Site Temples & The Town of Luang Prabang – Luang Prabang
Around World Heritage Site Temples & The Town of Luang Prabang
Relax until check out and transfer to the airport for the flight to Luang Prabang. Upon arrival, meet your local guide and transfer to your hotel.  Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, then a walking tour around the World Heritage sites, including Wat Visoun, Phousi Mountain, Wat Mai, Wat Xieng Thong and the National Museum. Dinner is on your own a any of the excellent eateries sprinkled around Luang Prabang. Ask your guide for suggestions, and enjoy your evening at leisure.

Day 3: Luang Prabang – Optional Buddhist Almsgiving – Local Style Mekong Cruise – Pak Ou Buddha Caves – Optional Muang Swa Discotheque Experience – Luang Prabang

Participate or watch the often mist shrouded daily early morning local Buddhist tradition of almsgiving if you choose. Then return to the hotel for breakfast.  Drive to the boat landing to embark on a local boat to go up-river to the Pak Ou Buddha Caves, a stone grotto in the heart of a jagged limestone karst fronting onto the Mekong.  Filled with perhaps thousands of Buddha images, this shrine was a favourite place of meditation and worship of the last King of Laos. Return to town in the afternoon. Dinner is on your own, but in the evening, if you wish, join your guide to visit the local discotheque for an experience that is part 50s prom, 70s disco and very Lao.

Day 4: Luang Prabang – Khuang Sii Waterfall – Next Destination
The multi-tiered Khuang Sii Waterfall
After breakfast drive to visit the multi-tiered Khuang Sii Waterfall.  Explore the verdant forests surrounding it and enjoy a swim in the crystal blue water if you care to.  Return to town and the airport for your flight onward.
